A Moment of Grace with Dr. Brazier | July 2.2020

Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

What does it mean to put your trust in someone? The word “trust” means different things to different people. One dictionary defines “trust” as reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, or surety of a person or thing. This dictionary also defines each of these attributes. “Reliance” means confident or trustful dependence. “Integrity” means soundness of moral character. “Strength” means the quality or state of being strong. “Ability” means talents, special skills, or aptitudes. “Surety” means security against loss or damage; a pledge, guaranty, or bond for the fulfillment of an obligation or the payment of a debt. “Surety” also refers to a person who has made himself or herself responsible for another, such as a sponsor, godparent, or bondsman.

Let’s look at how these attributes pertain to God. We can confidently rely on God because He is faithful. We need not spend time wondering whether He will help us this time because He helps us even when we’re not aware of His hand in our circumstances. It’s His good pleasure to reveal Himself to us. God is the standard of integrity, morality, and evidence of what is true in His Word. We cannot go wrong when we do things His way. We can count on God’s strength, because no one is stronger. He does what He wills, and no one can stop Him.

When it comes to ability, no one comes close to being able to do what He can because He’s all powerful. Who can call fire from heaven, shut the lion’s jaws, and save us and heal us? He protects us from our enemies. With a God like this, why do we constantly look to people to do for us what only God can? Why does our confidence change with the weather and our sense of security flee with changing circumstances? When it comes to being trustworthy, is there anyone with the credentials of God? We are to put our confidence in our great God and trust Him for everything in our lives.

Father, thank You that I can trust You with every area of my life. Help me to honor You with my life, health, family, occupation, money, gifts, and talents. Amen.
