The City Sessions project was birthed out of the concept that cities are compressed environments. In the city, there seems to be a barrage of creative solutions for some of life's deepest questions: ‘Who I am?’ ‘Why am I here?’ and, Where can I find freedom?’ The hope of this album is to help confront and deal with some of these deeper human questions. Our desire from the start of this project was to record a live audio-visual experience that spiritually decompressed the frantic soul, challenge the way we think about faith, and help bring a more personal encounter to Jesus Himself.

LYRICS:
I missed a thousand moments
I traded precious time
Tracing the stars for answers
And fighting through the night
Searching for hidden treasure
To catch a distant dream
I couldn't see the daylight in front of me

I trust You with tomorrow
I let go of the past
Not starring at the future
This moment’s all I have
From darkness into color
You've opened up my eyes
You’re everything I see
You're the reason I'm alive

I feel You all around me
Like sun upon my skin
Your plans they never fail me
You never miss a thing
You walk the path before me
I will not be afraid
I’m just breathing in the gift of today

Everyday, everyday, everyday that I’m with you
I fall more, I fall more, I fall more in love with you
Wide awake, wide awake, You have opened up my eyes
Every tear, every step, every breath
You’re the reason I’m alive

Urban Rescue - "Carry Me" (Official Lyric Video)

My wife and I just returned home after having dinner with another close couple of ours. They were in the middle of experiencing the loss and heartbreak of a recent miscarriage, so we made an effort just to listen, comfort, and grieve alongside them. We all felt confused, angry, helpless - mostly begging the question, "Why?" After my wife and I got home there weren't very many words to say. We just quietly went to bed, wrapped in sadness and pain for our friends.

Then around 1pm, in the middle of the night, we got a call. It was my wife's sister, "We're having a baby! You guys need to come to the hospital right now!"

In a wild rush of joy running through our veins, my wife and I jumped out of bed, packed up whatever we could, put the dog in the car, and ran out the door. With a conscience attempt to remain within the speed limit, needless to say we drove as fast as we could.

During the next 24 hours of delivery I began to circle the hospital, praying, "God...." [silence] "Please...." [silence] "But why.... ? PLEASE..." [silence]

In one day I was witnessing two completely different dimensions of the human experience. I was circling the hospital, so excited for my soon-to-be nephew to be arrive into the world, and at the same time so numb for our friends helpless to see the arrival of their own child. In that moment, an old Psalm began to rise up from deep within my memory,

I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,
because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
nor will you let your faithful one see decay.

Psalm 16:7-10 (NIV)

After a 24 hour delivery, my nephew born healthy, safe, and sound. It doesn't help answer the question, why - but I will say I've witnessed the hand of God literally carry both couples - one through joy, one through suffering. In both situations, God was present - never abandoning - always at their right hand - faithful to never His beloved see decay.

No matter what you're season you're in - delight, or decay - God carries you. You can rest in that. In the blessing and in the sorrow, He carries you. In the shadows and in the shame, He carries you. When everything is broken and after all falls apart He carries you. And yet even still, in the serene calming of the raging sea just when you almost gave up, He carries you.

I pray this song can be a prayer for you and your community to hold onto, through whatever season is ahead. For free chord charts please visit: http://www.urbanrescuemusic.com/#!charts/c16b1

LYRICS:
My heart was a burial ground
Broken under the surface
With no light to be found
But You pulled me out of the grave
Like a desolate treasure
And You called me by my name

Up from the ashes
God You are making something beautiful
For You have won my heart
No longer ruined I have been ransomed by Your jealous love
For You have won my heart

My heart was a vessel of war
Sinking under the surface
In the wake of the storm
But You saw the depths of my shame
And with reckless abandon
Triumphed over the grave

Break me, mold me, take me, use me
You won my heart, You won my heart
Find me, free me, heal me, lead me
You won my heart, You won my heart

Dear God,
It's hard for me to rest when everything inside beats so fast
Hard for me to accept love when all I've ever known are heart attacks
And heart failures - cardiac arrest, you see
I'm not used to being healthy
Just making sure everyone thinks I am, but who am I?
I always ask myself the question
why this fearful heart can't accept your reckless invitations
And maybe I've seen too many brave hearts get executed
And I'm afraid to be next
Got all this pain locked inside but I don't know how to open up my chest
So just leave me to myself 'cuz it hurts to get cut
Except every time that happens, I self-destruct
I lie, I hate, blame, hurt everyone I love
Like what's wrong with me GOD, am I allergic to love? Your love?
Please help me to receive it like medicine for this low-grade fever
'Cuz I'm so tired of feeling sick and tired
out of control like a soul that would never be treated
But I heard you love healing broken things
If I step back and surrender all the pieces
And you promised to give me something whole in return if all I had to give was a few mustard seeds and
a little bit of faith
a little bit of hope
a little bit of trust to have to believe that's enough
a little bit of faith
a little bit of hope
a little bit of trust to have to believe that's enough
for You to start also for You to finish

I'll get out of the way while You handle Your business
I'll lose control while You hold up my senses
Give you all and You take away my defenses
So God, I'm running back to the start
I won't run anymore
You've won my heart
